# Getting started

Draw an icon in the browser, over HTTP with a test key, or from a coding agent with the public skill.

## In the browser

Open [blode.co/iconsmith](https://blode.co/iconsmith). Name an icon, pick size, stroke, radius and outline or filled. Two authors draw it. Keep the SVG you want.

Generation is offline on a deployment without `OPENAI_API_KEY`. The page still renders.

## Over HTTP

A well-formed test key is accepted on any deployment and never calls a provider:

```bash
curl https://blode.co/iconsmith/api/v1/icons \
  -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
  -H 'Authorization: Bearer ism_test_00000000000000000000000000000000' \
  -d '{"concept":"bookmark-check","model":"iconsmith-1","n":2}'
```

`GET https://blode.co/iconsmith/api/v1/models/iconsmith-1` describes the served model. See [the API](/api) for the contract.

## In a coding agent

Install one way. The skill calls `iconsmith-1` over HTTP; it does not draw on the host agent’s own model.

If you are in Claude Code:

```bash
claude plugin marketplace add mblode/iconsmith
claude plugin install iconsmith@iconsmith
```

If you are in another agent:

```bash
npx skills add mblode/iconsmith --skill iconsmith
```

You can read the skill at [skills/iconsmith/SKILL.md](https://github.com/mblode/iconsmith/blob/main/skills/iconsmith/SKILL.md). Then ask the agent to draw a bookmark-check icon with iconsmith. See [the API](/api) for the HTTP contract. The npm CLI (prepare, check, draw, lint) is a separate compiler; see [the CLI](/cli).
